Motor Learning

Motor Learning

When an athlete runs, walks, skates or swims; when an athlete jumps, twists, dives or flips; when an athlete hits, swings, punches or tackles, that person is using one or more of the human skills called Motor Skills.

Our goal here at EIT Athletics is to help you the athlete understand how your Body and Mind learn new skills so that you are better able to perform these skills with Fluency and Control. In addition, the coaching staff at EIT Athletics wants to better equip the Coach so that they are better able to Understand and Relate to how their athletes learn and grow.

When coaching, always remember that there are three Specific goals in mind in relation to your Athletes Performance:
  • There is Always a goal to achieve - There is and must be a Purpose to what you are teaching.

  • Motor Skills of Interest are always performed Voluntarily - An athletes Reflexes are not skills in that they occur Involuntarily such as an eye blink. Instead, we are discussing Sport Specific movements and actions that have a clear purpose and goal.

  • A Motor Skill requires Body and or Limb movement to accomplish the specific goal or task.
When one of the coaching staff from EIT Athletics comes to Train Your Athlete, or when we come to Discuss With Your Coaches the many ways of interacting and being a part of the Athletic Experience, we always emphasize these three points.

For without these points, the athletes will eventually suffer in that we are not recognizing how the human body Develops, Grows and Learns.
